Default pc does not recognize modem....

Hoping someone might of had this problem and can help me. My computer does not recognize my modem, it did, I had been online with no problems then yesterday I couldn't get online and it states it doesn't recognize the modem. I went to device manager to see if there was a problem, but the device manager does not show any devices? I tried to uninstall and then reinstall my internet provider software, but a get an error message that says telephony services not available. I have also tried to do a system restore but it doesn't have a date to go to except for yesterday which was the day these problems started.

I really really appreciate any help anyone can offer! Thanks in advance for all you read and respond!

Have a great evening!

Sherry

Since it doesn't show up in the device manager, I would unplug the PC, put on an static electricity discharge wrist strap and then remove the modem completely from the PC. Restart the PC, check the device manager and add&remove programs and remove any referecne to this modem. Next power down and reinstall the modem. You will need the installation software that comes with that modem.

If the modem is still working, then this procedure should restore it. If it doesn't work, I suspect that the modem is fried and a replacement is needed.

Are saying nothing regarding the modemm shows up or that nothing about any device shows up in the Device Manager?

Also, what version of Windows are you using?

Nothing at all is showing up in the device manager. The only thing that is not working is the modem but I went to the device manager to see if there was the yellow triangle thing next to the modem. That's when I discovered no other devices being listed as well. I am using windows xp.

Thanks again for your time I really appreciate it!

Default pc does not recognize modem.

Im not sure if your problem has been fixed but u can go to run, type cmd, and then type "ping www.google.com" without the " " if your loss is 100% im betting its your computer because other computers work with the modem. I would suggest restoring the computer to an earlier point or purchasing a new network card.
